These peanut bites are my grandmother’s recipe. She used to prepare them for the birthdays. I remember she sat in her kitchen preparing these little balls and finishing each one with a piece of peanut as decoration.
These peanut bites are a popular candy in Brazil. It is made with simple ingredients and…little sugar! Its irresistible taste makes you want to eat one after another…
I prepared these you see on the photos in May, for my sister’s birthday. I was in Brazil and there you can buy ground toasted peanuts. If you can’t find it (here in Italy where I live I can’t find it, for example), just toast them in the oven and ground with your food processor.
It is a cute idea for a party, or just as a food gift when you are invited to a friend’s house. I am sure you’ll love it ;-).
Ingredients:
- 4 egg whites
- 3 Tbsp of sugar
- 1 pound of toasted and ground peanuts
- 3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- brown sugar (or white) to roll them
- entire peanuts to decorate
Instructions:
Beat the egg whites until stiff and add the other ingredients minus the cocoa, as you will add it slowly until the dough becomes of a consistency you can roll small balls with it using your hands.
Pass the balls onto the brown sugar and add half peanut to decorate.
Buon appetito!
